So I only had a bike/run brick workout on the schedule, but I just couldn’t say no to a Labor Day morning lake swim. Adding a swim in the morning meant that today would be another mini triathlon of sorts.
#192 1000 meter Lucky’s lake crossing
- The weather was perfect, the water felt cooler and I wasn’t too drained from working all night. Perfect conditions for a great swim. Had some challenges on the way as I-4 highway was completely shut down due to a sever fatal accident. Life is short play hard, live with no fears and no regrets. Because you never know when your time may be up on this life. I started out relaxed and “mixing it up” with the other swimmers. I’m still getting use to all the bumping and crashing into each other in the water. The lake water is cooling down and felt great. There was little evidence of hydrilla too.
Bike Speed Work
- I wanted to ride directly after Lucky’s Lake swim, but there was not a good bike route to ride that would allow me to ride without too many stops. So I drove to the West Orange Trail for my speedwork. I kept passing a bike group who must have thought I was racing them, because I’d pass them and then slow up during my recovery. The numbness in my left big toe continues, this time starting a lot sooner in the ride. Might look into shoes being too snug. Also I wore the chamois shorts which provide virtually no comfort at all. I dreading my really long rides coming up, if I’m not able to solve these discomforts.
- I’m glad I remembered this as a 25 minute run versus 25 minutes one way like I did last time. LOL Was very hot and I’m glad I only swam 1000 meters today. Ran in my “retired” shoes the On’s and I paid for it. Now there is a slight pain in my ring hip flexor. Lesson learned don’t run in worn down shoes, it’s just not worth the risk of injury.
After completing my mini triathlon of a 1000 meter swim, 27 mile bike and 2.6 mile run, I felt great. I was a little hot and hungry, but overall felt pretty good.
