Baldwin Park 15 mile blast

A beautiful morning for a long run

After working all night 3rd shift, I still managed almost a 15 mile run in the sun.  Baldwin Park loop is one of the best places I’ve found for running.  Imagine a 2.5-3.0 mile loop that has a bathroom and ice cold water fountain.  The course is also built with a few slight rolling hills to spice things up. I also enjoy all the activity on the route too.  The walkers, the other runners, the cyclist and the dog walkers all serve to take my mind off of the long run.  The weather was hot, but not too hot and with ice cold water only 3 miles away, very doable.  My knees were a little crickety, but held up surprisingly well.

Lessons learned:

  1. The generation UCAN mixed with protein powder seemed to work very well.  I had a GU jel, just because I was trying to stay ahead of the hydration and hunger curve.
  2. Seems a lot easier to keep running than to stop and restart
  3. I need to work on my grab and go refuel process
